Summary: Saul continues to pursue David and as he finds out the help that the priest of Nob gave David help, Saul commanded the city be wiped out. One of the priest (Abiathar) escaped to David, reported what happened and stayed with him for protection.
ReplyDeleteApplication: The wickedness of Saul is unbelievable. To wipeout defenseless servants of You. What a reminder that paranoia, insecurity and jealousy have such devastating consequences on those around us. LORD, let me trust in you and follow you. Help me to put my confidence in You LORD so I do not destroy those around me.
Summary:
ReplyDeleteDavid is told by a prophet to go back to his land. Saul finds out David is back and goes looking for him. Saul is very upset as many of his own men are turning from him. Only one man (Doeg) tips off Saul of the priest Ahimelech and how he helped David escape. None of his men would follow Saul’s order to kill Ahimelech and his 85 priests except Doeg, who followed through and killed all 85 of them, their families, and animals. Only one survived (Aniathar – son of Ahimelech) who went to David and told him everything that happened. David took full blame for their death and vowed to protect Aniathar for ever with his own life.
Application:
God, this is such a horrible story. It looks to me like the Saul is losing the following of his men as they see how evil he is. Saul still has one man who follows orders and kills all the innocent priests and their families! I guess you are telling me that life won’t be fair and that bad things will happen to good people. However, that through these evil things in the end Your plan will be done. Sometimes bad things need to happen in order for your plan to be carried out. Just because I am a Christian doesn’t mean my life will be easy. Please help me to be faithful to You through the horrible things in my life.
