1 Samuel 22:1 David departed from there and escaped to the cave of Adullam. And when his brothers and all his father's house heard it, they went down there to him. (2) And everyone who was in distress, and everyone who was in debt, and everyone who was bitter in soul, gathered to him. And he became captain over them. And there were with him about four hundred men.
Psalm (57:1) To the choirmaster: according to Do Not Destroy. A Miktam of David, when he fled from Saul, in the cave. Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me, for in you my soul takes refuge; in the shadow of your wings I will take refuge, till the storms of destruction pass by. (2) I cry out to God Most High, to God who fulfills his purpose for me. (3) He will send from heaven and save me; he will put to shame him who tramples on me. Selah God will send out his steadfast love and his faithfulness! (4) My soul is in the midst of lions; I lie down amid fiery beasts-- the children of man, whose teeth are spears and arrows, whose tongues are sharp swords. (5) Be exalted, O God, above the heavens! Let your glory be over all the earth! (6) They set a net for my steps; my soul was bowed down. They dug a pit in my way, but they have fallen into it themselves. Selah (7) My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast! I will sing and make melody! (8) Awake, my glory! Awake, O harp and lyre! I will awake the dawn! (9) I will give thanks to you, O Lord, among the peoples; I will sing praises to you among the nations. (10) For your steadfast love is great to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds. (11) Be exalted, O God, above the heavens! Let your glory be over all the earth!
Summary: David escapes to the cave of Addulam where he cries out to the LORD for refuge and worships and praises the God who’s glory is known and extends his steadfast love.
ReplyDeleteApplication: LORD, in times of difficulty, may you be glorified and praised. May I remember the security you give and the steadfast love you have extended to me in Christ. No situation this life can bring can compare for the situation you saved me from by the love of your son. Thank you.
Summary:
ReplyDeleteDavid escapes Goth and hides in a cave along with 400 in debt, in trouble, discontented men who follow him there. The enemy tries to hurt David with their words but they have fallen into their own trap. David praises God and trusts Him.
Application:
God, even when David is persecuted by so many around him, he goes to You and praises You! Wow…. I don’t think I do this. Usually when I am persecuted I either feel sorry for myself or I seek revenge. I need to go to You God and praise you for your faithfulness and unfailing love when people are attacking me. Thank you God for always being there for me!
