(9) O my Strength, I will watch for you, for you, O God, are my fortress. (10) My God in his steadfast love will meet me; God will let me look in triumph on my enemies. (11) Kill them not, lest my people forget; make them totter by your power and bring them down, O Lord, our shield! (12) For the sin of their mouths, the words of their lips, let them be trapped in their pride. For the cursing and lies that they utter, (13) consume them in wrath; consume them till they are no more, that they may know that God rules over Jacob to the ends of the earth. Selah (14) Each evening they come back, howling like dogs and prowling about the city. (15) They wander about for food and growl if they do not get their fill. (16) But I will sing of your strength; I will sing aloud of your steadfast love in the morning. For you have been to me a fortress and a refuge in the day of my distress. (17) O my Strength, I will sing praises to you, for you, O God, are my fortress, the God who shows me steadfast love.

Summary: David cries out for the LORD to deliver him from his bloodthirsty enemies. David prays this knowing the LORD is all mighty, and the LORD loves him.
ReplyDeleteApplication: LORD God. In these two truths shall I place my confidence. First, that you are mightier than anyone or anything you created, including my enemies. Second, you love me. One without the other breeds no confidence. If might without love, then I would fear your destruction. If love without might, then I would fear the world. But with these two truths, I have confidence to face today and tomorrow by your grace.
Summary:
ReplyDeleteDavid praises God for His unfailing love, strength, and for His refuge and safety in distress. David calls out for God to punish those who want him dead and to capture them by their pride, curses, and lies. Those who are unsaved scavenge for food but always go to sleep unsatisfied.
Application:
God, thank you for your unfailing love! You are my strength when times get tough. I need to always trust in You and not worry as you will not fail me. I should never think that I will ever be able to be satisfied with what the world has to offer me. I’ll always be unhappy and never have enough if I try to feed myself. Pride, anger, and lies will only enslave me and I will be imprisoned by them.
